Bio
Dr. Ashiq Masood is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and Program Leader for Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology at the Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center. He completed his medical education at the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, India, followed by Internal Medicine residency at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center and Hematology/Medical Oncology fellowship at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Masood is board-certified in Medical Oncology and Hematology by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Dr. Masood's research in single-cell and spatial transcriptomics has been published in prestigious journals, including Nature Genetics and Genome Biology. His 2024 Nature Genetics publication introduced the concept of "spatial ecotypes" in pancreatic cancer metastasis, while his Genome Biology study, representing one of the largest single-cell analyses of colorectal cancer, identified critical prognostic markers. He has secured NIH grants as P Co-Principal Investigator, including R01 funding for DCE-MRI-guided neoadjuvant approaches for borderline resectable pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer alliance funding on investigations targeting cancer-associated fibroblasts.
Dr. Masood is a member of the NCCN Panels for Pancreatic Cancer and Ampullary Cancer Guidelines, which shape national standards of care. His clinical and research interests include gastrointestinal malignancies, the tumor microenvironment, spatial biology, and the development of novel therapeutic approaches for treatment-resistant cancers.
